You are here >> MA in Pedagogy and Practice >> Certificate Level
If you do not already have any M level credits - or you completed your PGCE more than 5 years ago then you will need to do the certificate level before you are able to start the MA(PP). There are a number of options for this:
1. Doing 60 credits from our existing PGT offering
  • You could take two of our existing M level courses these include:
    • Contemporary issues in education
    • International and intercultural studies
    • Research methods
  • These consist of about 30 hours of face-to-face tuition at the university and then about 100 hours of self-study

For more information on these courses or these options see these pages or call us on +44 (0)1482 465292

2. Doing the bespoke certificate stage for run-up to the MA(PP)
(a) The certificate modules in coaching and mentoring.
  • Module 1 - Theory and Practice of Mentoring: This will explore your role as a mentor in schools, look at some of the theory and models of mentoring and explore your own practice agains these. If you are already a mentor in schools this will use the work you are currently doing and build upon this.
  • Module 2 - Effective Mentoring in Schools: This will explore your role as a leader of mentoring in schools, building your existing practice and developing this against some theoretical models.

This is taught via a combintion of on-line self-study and tutorials - click here for more on this.

(b) The certificate modules in teaching and learning
  • Module 1 - How can teachers help pupis to learn: This will help you to explore some of the theory that underpins the nature of teaching and learning looking at current research ideas and practice including neuroscience, theory of learning, and learning theorists - more on this
  • Module 2 - Raising achievement among identified groups: This module will explore mechanisms for developing the achievement of an identified group in your school (i.e. SEND, EAL, EASL, Pupil Premium, White working class boys etc...) - more on this

This is taught via a combintion of on-line self-study and tutorials.

(c) The accredited prior learning route plus one other module
  • If you have undertaken, or lead, other PD then you can use this as a basis for reflection on the process of professional learning and professional development. Contrasting your own learning against some models (e.g. Moon, Schön, Kolb, Gibbs) you will produce an annotated portfolio of evidence.
  • You will then need to complete one of the units above.

This is taught via a combintion of on-line self-study and tutorials.
